What are the causes of Environmental Issues?
Changes to biophysical environments, ecosystems, biodiversity, and natural resources caused directly or indirectly by humans, such as global warming, environmental degradation (such as ocean acidification), mass extinction and biodiversity loss, ecological crisis, and ecological collapse, are examples of human impact on the environment or anthropogenic impact on the environment.
Just to meet societal requirements, changing the environment has disastrous consequences. Population expansion, overconsumption, overexploitation, pollution, and deforestation are some of the human activities that harm the environment on a global scale (either directly or indirectly). Some issues, such as global warming, land pollution and biodiversity loss, have been described as posing serious hazards to humanity's survival which really needs to be resolved in order to protect environment.
Overconsumption
Overconsumption occurs when resource consumption exceeds the ecosystem's sustainable capacity. The ecological footprint, a resource accounting approach that balances human demand on ecosystems with the amount of planet matter ecosystems can replenish, can be used to calculate it. According to estimates, the demand of humanity is 70% greater than the combined rate of regeneration of all of the planet's ecosystems. Environmental degradation and eventual resource depletion result from a long-term practice of overconsumption.
Over-Population
Human overpopulation had an impact on the environment for thousands of years, and it has been a source of concern for everyone. Thomas Malthus published his findings that the human population would almost certainly outstrip the planet's food supply without significant and ongoing technological innovation.
Our incapacity to accommodate population growth is to blame for much of the environmental damage we've done. Technological advancements have generated a new double-edged sword since Malthus initially expressed his grave concerns: health and affluence. Our food supply can now support more people than ever before, and medical innovation has led to longer life spans. As our standard of living and life expectancy grow, so do the issues posed by overpopulation.
Genetic Modification, Agriculture, and Domesticated Animals
a): The necessity to feed an ever-increasing human population has helped enormous agricultural developments, which was the first major human innovation to assure our species' survival. Hunter-gatherer civilizations were able to occupy a region and plant their own food thanks to early agriculture. This had an immediate influence on the ecology, since non-native species were transplanted to new places and particular plants and animals were prioritized for cultivation over others. More recently, breakthroughs in genetic modification have sparked worries about newly produced crops' environmental impact.
b): Domestication of livestock and other species, such as dogs and cats, by early humans had a huge impact on the ecosystem by modifying the soil. By diminishing native grasses and contributing to soil erosion, grazing animals contributed to environmental change. And we know that the rapid development of cow populations to fulfill human nutritional demands has influenced the composition of gases in the atmosphere significantly.
c): Agriculture's industrialization over the last several centuries has exacerbated these consequences, but it has also spawned a wave of counter-movements that seek to reverse the harmful effects of human interference. People are becoming more aware of the environmental impact of large factory farms and are seeking to return to smaller farms and even urban gardens. As "eating local" becomes more fashionable, urban space is being reclaimed for traditional agriculture, causing the environment to be harmed once more.
