What is an API Oil-water separator?
An API oil-water separator is a machine made to separate oil and suspended solids in large quantities, from industrial wastewater produced in petrochemical plants, chemical plants, natural gas processing facilities, and other sources of oily industrial water.
Using Stokes Law to calculate the rise velocity of oil droplets based on their density and size, the API separator is a gravity separation device. As opposed to the specific gravity difference between water and suspended particulates, which is substantially larger, the design is based on the specific gravity difference between oil and wastewater.
The separated wastewater is the middle layer between the oil layer and the suspended particles layer, which settles to the bottom of the separator as a sediment layer and rises to the top of the separator.
Design, engineering, and manufacturing services for oil-water separators are best found at Netsol Water.
For refineries, chemical factories, power plants, and many other large-scale industrial facilities, an API Separator is a fantastic piece of wastewater processing machinery.

API Guidelines with Specialized Features
To design and construct an API Separator that will endure for many years, one must have a thorough understanding of influent characteristics, skimming system design, drag conveyor torque requirements, component selection, sludge conveyance, and maintenance processes.
In order to properly address client demands, which we are aware are particular to the facility, Netsol will confer with plant engineers and operators to fully understand their concerns and design specifications. We will then custom build an API Separator to suit those needs.
Theory of API Separator
The oil and water are separated by gravity differential settling. To choose the right design and size of the separator, our engineers will assess the type and condition of the oil as well as the parameters of the waste stream.
Considerations include the size of the oil globules, the specific gravity of the oil and wastewater, the temperature, and the viscosity. The design will include provisions for the separation of suspended solids from the wastewater as well.
