Heavy metal chromium stands out for its hardness, high polish, high melting point, and resistance to tarnish and corrosion, among other qualities. Native chromium metal is rarely encountered in nature, instead, it is present as ore deposits primarily made up of a substance known as chromite (iron chromium oxide).

What is chromium-6?
Chromium is a metallic element with no taste or odour. It can be found throughout nature and frequently adopts one of two typical forms.

2: Chromium-6 can be created artificially as well as organically, frequently as a result of erosion.
Is chromium-6 harmful?
It is well-known that chromium-6 is a carcinogen, or a material that can lead to cancer. Chromium-6 may be a human carcinogen if consumed, “according to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency”.
Steps to take if your water contains chromium-6
1: Chromium-6 tests fall outside the standard parameters of at-home water testing, but experts in the field can do more thorough examinations, and suggest filtration systems
2: You are required by law to be informed if the water in your public water system, has more chromium than the standard limit.
3: However, keep in mind that private well water, which provides around one third of the world's population with their primary supply of drinking water, should also be tested.
How is chromium-6 in drinking water treated?
For the removal and treatment of chromium-6 from water, a variety of treatment methods including adsorption, chemical precipitation, electrocoagulation, ion exchange, electrodialysis, and membrane separation (reverse osmosis) are available. Out of these, chemical precipitation and utilization of RO plants are popular methods for removing them.
