How are Automatic Water Softeners useful?

A tank is provided to hold a concentrated brine solution of sodium chloride or potassium chloride. This solution is used in softener regeneration.

How does an automatic water softener work?

Under normal circumstances, water flows through the tank. Because calcium and magnesium are present in the feed water, so, when utilized in the resin bed, these minerals have a higher positive charge than sodium and potassium. It occurs because the calcium and magnesium ions on the beds exchange places and are replaced by sodium ions. The effluent water is now regarded as soft.

While the procedure is underway, the sodium is depleted as it is eliminated in order for the softening to be successful. The best time for the process is usually late at night or early in the morning, when soft water is not accessible for regeneration.When concentrated salt water washes over the resin substrate, regeneration can be considered. Because the sodium content in brine water is high, it replenishes the calcium and magnesium while retaining the chloride in the solution. Finally, after the regeneration process is completed, the brine is flushed. To keep the water softening process going, new sodium chloride or potassium chloride must be introduced to the brine tank at regular intervals.As a result, regeneration discharges a substantial amount of water into the sewer system.
