WHAT IS SOFT WATER LOOP?
A soft water loop is a copper piping system that connects the internal water distribution pipes in your home to the water softener. A water loop's primary function is to keep the inside and outside of a home's water systems separate.
BENEFITS OF A SOFT WATER LOOP
The main advantage of a soft water loop is that it allows you to keep your homes outside water lines separate from its internal piping. Plants, grass, and trees, as well as any other outdoor watering, do not require softened water.
Plants are accustomed to the minerals found in hard water and can withstand harsher conditions. The piping infrastructure to your home's external piping is less expensive and easier to repair. Aside from the cost of piping outside, there are no high-priced appliances in your home's external piping system that should be protected from the corrosive properties of hard water.
What do you mean by a closed loop?
Closed loops are large heat exchangers that are designed for heat transfer.
The "loops" are wiring systems that transport hot water, steam, or cold water through buildings or equipment to be used for heating or cooling. Many hot and cold loops are used to heat and/or cool home interiors like hotel rooms, casinos, and exhibition halls.
Other applications include heating/cooling as part of a process, such as for a chiller. The term "closed loop" attributed to the idea that the water is not removed or added to the system on a regular basis, and that the water should circulate continuously in a loop through the system. Water should only be removed from a closed loop during a "blow-down" procedure to remove contamination and refresh the water in the loop.
LEAKAGE IN LOOPS
With closed loop systems, leaks are a constant concern. Leaks are often difficult to detect, but it is critical to identify and repair any leaks in the loop. Leaks cost a lot of money over time.
COSTS INVOLVED IN LEAKAGE
· Water replacement costs to replace water lost due to a leak.
· Chemical costs will rise although when water is lost due to a leak, the new water that is added must be treated. Small amounts of additional chemical are required for a leak-free system.
· Property damage is likely to happen in the vicinity of any leaks. Water marks on drywall are an example of minor damage, whereas buckled flooring and mould infestation are examples of major damage.
· Corrosion and equipment damage may result if the water in the loop lacks the necessary amount of chemicals to prevent corrosion.
MAINTENANCE OF CLOSED LOOPS IS IMPORTANT
Water should be treated with a calculated dose of the appropriate chemicals, and the water quality should be monitored to ensure that the chemicals are effective. In chemical by-pass feeders, filters should be used to remove particulates and keep the water clean. These filters should be changed on a regular basis, and the filters should be carefully inspected to see if contamination levels in the line are increasing.
