Trees are essential for our survival not only because they provide us with paper, lumber, and chewing gum, but also because they play a vital role in the carbon cycle.
Have you ever imagined what the world might be like without trees?
There will be no life on Earth without trees. Everything in our lives revolve around trees. And, because to our 6.7 billion-strong population, that seemingly distant future is getting closer by the day.
Even if our species survives deforestation, life will be meaningless and extremely tough. The following are some of the negative consequences of deforestation on human life:
1. FILTHY AIR: Humans would not be able to survive without trees since the air would be unfit for breathing. People would have to construct gas masks that will filter the little oxygen left out in the air.
Trees are an important part of the carbon cycle, which is a worldwide process in which carbon dioxide flows continuously from the atmosphere to organisms and back. Carbon, after water, is the second most valuable element in life. In any case, trees use photosynthesis to extract carbon from the atmosphere and convert it to energy. This carbon is subsequently converted to oxygen and released into the atmosphere through respiration, or it is kept inside the trees until they decay into the soil.
As a result, without trees, there would be substantially more carbon dioxide in the air and significantly less oxygen! The filthy air would be filled with airborne particles and pollutants such as carbon monoxide, sulphur dioxide, and nitrogen dioxide, and the temperature might rise by up to 12 degrees Fahrenheit.
2. LIFELESS SOIL: Deforestation's harmful effect on soil is the next devastating result of deforestation, if the air hasn't already wiped out everyone. Agriculture provides a living for 2.5 billion people, according to the Food and Agriculture Organization. Those people will not be the only ones affected if deforestation succeeds. Dangerous chemicals and contaminants that are normally filtered by trees would end up in the soil. Furthermore, because trees protect the area, soil erosion is currently prevented. The soil, on the other hand, would be unprotected and subject to nutrient depletion in the top soil. Soil erosion would grow more common, and finally all of the soil's arability would be lost, and agriculture would collapse, leaving mankind to starve.
3. CHRONIC DROUGHT: Arid conditions will emerge not only as a result of toxic unfiltered pollutants, but also because it will rarely rain at one location. Isn't that insane? During the "dry season," trees release water to regulate and anchor the soil. Chronic droughts, on the other hand, can restrict river navigation, hamper industrial activities, and even wipe out crop production in deforested areas. If it rains, storm water flow will be increased, contributing to minor floods and topsoil erosion. Furthermore, trees add humidity to the air by transpiration, whereas the absence of trees leads in a lack of moisture in the air.
4. NO TREE-BASED PRODUCTS: Of course, if trees don't exist, you won't be able to obtain any items from them. Every day, we consume and discard paper without realizing that we are contributing to the annual logging of four billion trees. Due to global deforestation, there would be no paper, baseball bats, barrels, books, crutches, coffee filters, guitars, grocery bags, pencils, pine oil, beds, billboards, buttons, fuelwood, charcoal, industrial roundwood, candy wrappers, chewing gum, cork, crayons, spices, egg cartons, linoleum, luggage, paper, pingpong balls, wooden chopsticks, rubber, tambourines, telephone books, and many more.
Fruits, nuts, and berries (as well as maple syrup) obtained from trees would be unavailable. Agricultural growth, infrastructure expansion, conversion to cropland/pasture, and road construction are all current sources of deforestation. Furthermore, demographic pressures, earnings, and internal social/political influences compel countries to increase the rate of forest loss.
5. WATER WARS: And, at some point in the future, freshwater supplies will become similarly scarce. There are numerous questions over whether we are now abusing nonrenewable resources, but freshwater is undoubtedly the most crucial of these resources. Human survival and agricultural/industrial operations are both dependent on freshwater. Future governments will have to make ground-breaking decisions on how to preserve enough freshwater resources for their country, and one option is to wage war on others to the death.
