What is Bio culture and Is it used in Wastewater Treatment?
Bio-culture can be defined as a specially formulated blend of robust microorganisms, macro and micro nutrients exclusively containing bacteria which can grow over a wide range of temperature.
The steps of supplying an aerated material derived from aeration tank to a bioreactor and cultivating microorganisms present in the aerated material by adding a culture having a relatively long preservation time and a large number of effective microorganisms are included in a method of preparing a microbial culture for wastewater treatment.
What is a microbial culture?
A microbial culture for wastewater treatment is a microbe that is added to the aeration tank to encourage the breakdown of different materials and to lower BOD, COD, and SS concentrations.
A solid type formulation and a liquid type formulation of microbial culture for wastewater treatment are both available.
-Enrichment culturing a microbe, inoculating the microorganism to a cereal medium, growing, hot-drying, and crushing may all be used to make a solid type microbial culture for wastewater treatment. Otherwise, a solid type microbial culture can be made by growing an inoculum in a liquid medium, freezing the cultured material, and then combining it with rice straw, rice bran, sawdust, fallen leaves, or cereal.
-A solid type microbial culture may also be made by growing an inoculum in a liquid medium, adding a surfactant to the liquid medium, and spray drying the cultured material.
-Enrichment culturing a microorganism in a liquid medium and adding a silicon oil and nonionic surfactant to the liquid medium may be used to make a liquid type microbial culture for wastewater treatment.
Bio-culture in wastewater treatment
The bio-culture medium for sewage treatment is a carefully prepared combination of microorganisms, macro/micro nutrients, and bacteria that can thrive at temperatures ranging from 5 to 55 degrees Celsius. These helpful bacteria begin secreting enzymes that breakdown and disintegrate faeces, urine, toilet paper, grease, fats, food scraps, detergents, and other organic wastes as soon as they are put to any sort of septic system. These ecologically friendly bacteria reproduce quickly and colonize the septic system, restoring its biological health and efficiency.
Some features of adopting bio-culture are
1: Improves speedy recovery time after disturbances by lowering BOD, COD, and SS in industrial wastewater treatment effluent;
2: Increases the capacity of municipal and industrial wastewater treatment systems by improving floc settling and preventing sludge thickening;
3: Improves the decomposition of certain target substances in waste;
4: Reduces sludge accumulation by breaking down fat and grease build-up;
5: Natural organic acid oxidation improves odour management;
6: Reduces suspended solids and complex material in bottom sludge;
7: Eliminates hydrogen sulphide gas and its odor;
8: Produces less sludge compared to alternative solutions;
9: Reduces nitrate and ammonia efficiency;
10: Biomass Dynamics Changes;
11: Meets PCB Requirements;
12: Improves floc settling formation;
13: Increase in MLSS;
14: Improves waste degradation.
