What are the various reactor types for wastewater treatment?

·         THE PROCESS OF ACTIVATED SLUDGE

This method of wastewater treatment breaks down organic materials in sewage using aerobic microorganisms. The liquid created via this process is then devoid of any other solids and organic material.

The process for treating activated sludge includes an aeration tank where air is injected into the liquid, a settling tank that aids in the sedimentation of water by separating the sludge from clear water, and a treatment step that removes any remaining dissolved oxygen with nitrogenous matter or phosphate.

·         THE PROCESS OF THE MEMBRANE BIOREACTOR (MBR)

Reactors used in wastewater treatment, such as the MBR, may provide water of a higher quality that urban communities can use for agriculture. Additionally, a municipality may use this bioreactor to modernize an antiquated treatment facility.

Waste can be treated using both the MBR and the activated sludge process. The liquid content of the waste mixture is reduced by the bioreactor, giving the chance to treat the residual with an activated sludge process. Typically, the MBR's filtration unit is either an internal, submerged, or exterior side-stream device.

·         SEWAGE MANAGEMENT USING BIODISCS

The biodiscs offers a solution for sewage disposal demands for houses without access to main drainage systems. Higher quality output may be produced with less upkeep than with conventional treatments.

This treatment takes less space than a typical septic tank and has substantially reduced operating costs.

·         TREATMENT OF WASTEWATER USING BIOFILTERS

Water from sewage is purified using the wastewater treatment method known as bio-filtration. The biofilters have a medium-grained filter made of carbon or sand. Nitrogen, phosphorus compounds, and nutrients in waste are broken down by the bio-filter.

In addition to organic carbon molecules, this purification technique also removes additional impurities from the sewage.The biofilters will undergo water treatment disinfection to boost efficiency, and make the water safe to drink.

·         TRICKLING FILTERS

In wastewater treatment, a crushed rock bed serves as the trickling filter. The surface of the rock is covered in sewage, which also cleans the liquid as it trickles past the filter.

To remove oxygen-containing compounds from the sewage, microorganisms cling to the biological debris. Up to 85% of contaminants in the water are removed using trickling filters.

·         MOVING BED BIOLOGICAL FILTERS (MBBR)

One of the various types of reactors used in wastewater treatment is the MBBR technology. This method combines moving and aerated wastewater treatment basins, using polyethylene biofilm. The bio-carrier works well, preserves the surface, and promotes the development of the bacteria, needed to break down waste.

The rapid biodegradation taking place in the system is caused by these microorganisms. The MBBR is significantly more compact and scalable, than comparable systems.
