oil water separator hydrocyclone, hydrocyclone oil and gas, parallel plate interceptor ppi oil water separator

What are Hydrocyclone Oil-water separator systems?

Oil-contaminated water is a by-product of several industrial operations, where microscopic oil droplets have scattered within the wastewater solution. It's tough to extract oil from wastewater and make it safe to dump or reuse without the correct equipment.

State Governments have put in place regulatory organisations to ensure that this water is managed and disposed safely. Noncompliance with wastewater discharge standards is punished by the Government, which imposes fines.

Oil can be removed from wastewater in a variety of ways, including coalescing oil separation and hydrocyclone oil separation.

Hydrocyclone Oil Separators

Hydrocyclones are cyclonic separators that use aqueous solutions as the principal feed fluid to separate product phases based on differences in gravity. Hydrocyclone separators, also known as enhanced gravity separators, remove oil droplets from oily water using centrifugal force.

Hydrocyclones separate solids or various phase fluids from the bulk fluid, unlike dry or dust cyclones, which separate solids from gases. A hydrocyclone is made up of three parts: a cylindrical feed part with tangential feed, an overflow part with vortex finder, and a conical component with an apex. There are no moving parts in a cyclone.

For proper cyclone operation, the following factors must be considered:

• The design;

• The specific weight differential between the two products phases, all are important elements for proper cyclone operation;

• Solids' shape;

• The rate at which the feed is being delivered;

• The medium's density;

• At the overflow and apex, the counterpressure.

Working principle of Hydrocyclone Oil Separators

The product is injected tangentially into the hydrocyclone at a particular pressure. This causes a centrifugal force, which pushes the heavier phase outward and downward along the conical part's wall. The conical part's decreasing diameter increases speed, which improves separation. Finally, the apex is used to discharge the concentrated solids. A fast rotating upward spiral movement of the fluid in the centre of the conically shaped housing is created by the vortex finder in the overflow part. Through the overflow outlet, the fluid is expelled.

Advantagesof Hydrocyclone Oil Separators

Hydrocyclone Oil Separators are a water filtering system that is very effective, small, and low maintenance. This separation technology is suited for industrial and commercial applications that demand high-quality water filtration in big quantities.

1: Smaller than standard separating systems - up to 90% smaller

2: Since there are no moving parts, there are fewer maintenance requirements

3: Large flow rates ranging from 2,000 to 500,000 litres per hour are available

4: Comes pre-wired and pre-plumbed

5: Oil droplets as small as 10-15 microns can be removed. Oil separators in the past worked on a scale of 40-60 microns.

Application of Hydrocyclone Oil Separators

1: The starch manufacturing business: For the concentration and refining of starch slurries, hydrocyclones are commonly used in the potato starch, cassava starch, wheat starch, and corn starch industries.

2: The industry of potato processing: In the manufacturing of French fries, potato crisps, and potato flakes, hydrocyclones are employed to separate starch from cutting water.

3: Separation and classification of sand: Hydrocyclones are used to separate and classify sand, as well as to separate sand from water or sludge.

4: Oil-water separation: Oil and water separation is used, for example, in the offshore business.
