What is water softening?

Water softening is a method of removing the ions that produce hardness in water, most often calcium and magnesium ions. -The thirdmain component of a water softening system is the brine tank. During the regeneration phase, this brine (a concentrated solution of salt water) is sucked back into the mineral tank to replenish the softening bed.
