water treatment plant in surat, smc water treatment plant, reuse of water, India is leading in Water recycling in the world

Which country recycles the most water in the world?

The water situation in India is continuously depleting. Despite having one-fifth of the world's population, India has just four percent of the world's freshwater resources. Due to shifting weather patterns and periodic droughts, India is water-stressed.

According to the most current “Central Ground Water Board statistics”, 256 of India's 700 districts reported 'critical' or 'over-exploited' groundwater levels.

This implies that acquiring water has become more difficult in some areas as the water table has lowered. Three-fourths of rural communities in India lack access to piped, drinking water and must rely on dangerous sources.

India has surpassed the United States as the world's largest extractor of groundwater, accounting for 25% of the total. 70% of our water sources are poisoned, and our major rivers are dying as a result of pollution.

The Water Reuse System in India

In India, water that has been processed for reuse is mostly utilized for agricultural irrigation. Approximately 10% is utilized for environmental objectives, such as boosting river flow volume and fighting fires. Only 5% of the total gets dumped into the sea.

Wastewater treatment plants are the focal point of India's Water reclamation program!

It is regarded as a model plant in India, treating 97 million GPD of municipal wastewater with the goal of reducing pollution, health concerns, and untreated discharges while providing clean, useful effluent. The wastewater is treated with secondary biological and tertiary treatment.

Beginning in the 2000s, India invested more than Rs. 750 million in centralized water reclamation, increasing capacity by 37 billion GPS of water — the majority of which is undergoing tertiary treatment. The country today has 67 big wastewater treatment facilities, with the ten largest processing more than 56 percent of the total amount of wastewater collected.

The pipe network in India is extensive, linking several locations and enabling for rapid transfer of extra water when required. For the first time, 2010 rules included criteria for minimizing salinity and harmful metal concentrations. Reclaimed water now promotes economic growth and makes it easier for India to withstand increasingly long droughts caused by climate change.

Leader in Wastewater Recycling on a Global Scale

It is widely assumed that if the globe does not make substantial improvements in water management, water demand will exceed availability with 40%, by 2030.

Rectifying the shortage might cost up to Rs. 60 billion every year for the next two decades, affecting everything from food prices to geopolitics.

Given India’smeticulously planned, high-quality water reuse and efficient distribution, the Environmental Protection Agency sought close collaboration of water distribution with water re-usein India, in developing its “2020 National Water Reuse Action Plan”.

India today enjoys a national water surplus, which it sells to its neighbours. Researchers and entrepreneurs inIndiaare aiming to improve efficiency. Aside from encouraging water reuse, national regulations promote smart water management, and research and development in the water industry is ongoing in areas such as leak detection and drip irrigation.

Water Reuse without Centralization

While big, centralized plants can benefit from economies of scale, smaller, decentralized plants can now compete with large plants' efficiency while avoiding the considerable hazards of overbuilding. Many infrastructure challenges, such as the need to build long, expensive pipeline networks, are solved by locating plants at the point of consumption.

What can Netsol Water provide?

Netsol's Smart Packaged plant, which compresses effective, efficient membrane aerated biofilm reactor (MABR) technology is one that lends itself to decentralization.

MABR produces effluent that fulfils India's “Title 22 and Class 1A” reuse regulations while reducing energy requirements due to its simultaneous nitrification-denitrification.
