What do you mean by Reverse Osmosis system?
Water is forced across a semi-permeable membrane by a reverse osmosis water filter, leaving contaminants behind that are flushed down the drain. A holding tank collects the clean drinking water.
Water impurities are removed by Reverse Osmosis, allowing you to reuse or drain it without harming the environment. RO systems are entirely self-contained, self-cleaning, and self-maintaining. They run on electricity and only need to be checked once a day by onsite personnel.
Netsol Water specialises in reverse osmosis system design for a wide range of industrial and commercial applications.
What do you mean by Electro-deionization?
Electro-deionization (EDI) is a water treatment technology that deionizes water and separates dissolved ions (impurities) from it by using electricity, ion exchange membranes, and resin. It varies from other water purification technologies in a way that, it is performed without the use of chemical treatments and is typically used as a polishing treatment prior to reverse osmosis (RO).
There are also EDI units that are frequently known to as continuous electro-deionization (CEDI) because the electric current continuously regenerates the resin mass.
Electronics, pharmaceuticals, and power generation are the primary applications of EDI technology. Many water treatment companies offer this technology, but it should only be used by experts who understand the limitations and use high-quality products.
How can RO & EDI system convert waste into electricity?
Taking the example of an anaerobic digestion plant, which will convert kitchen waste into biogas, and as a gasification plant, which will burn non-recyclable waste, the gas from the systems will be burned to heat water to steam, which will then power generators to generate electricity. This energy will be fed directly into the grid, providing renewable energy to homes and businesses throughout.
"To generate steam, demineralised water is required." Despite the fact that the steam cycle is a closed system, modern boilers still require a stream of demineralized water to compensate for losses. Some manufacturers have created a skid-mounted system. Combination of reverse osmosis and electro-deionization systems (RO-EDI) provide optimal performance while maintaining low operating costs in the smallest possible footprint.
Heating water is an energy-intensive process, and scale formation reduces the efficiency of steam generation processes. Many water treatment manufacturers have created an automated boiler water treatment system that protects equipment while requiring minimal operator input. Its design is ideal for use in power plants and ensures low operating costs.
What is skid technology?
The RO-EDI plant system is a fully automated, integrated skid-mounted boiler water treatment system that incorporates the most advanced RO-EDI water system technology.
To remove all scale-forming ions that may impact the generator's performance, the three-step treatment employs reverse osmosis (RO) technology, followed by gas transfer membranes (GTM) and finally electro-deionization system treatment. The resulting EDI purified water has a conductivity of lower than 0.1 micro Siemens (S), a silica content of less than 10 parts per billion (ppb), and a sodium content of less than 3 ppb.
This solution employs cutting-edge water purification technology. Historically, resin beds were used in a batch process to remove scale-forming ions. This is a labour-intensive, complex process that necessitates equipment downtime. It also carries an additional risk because the resin beds must be chemically regenerated. This entails on-site chemical handling as well as the generation of an effluent stream that must be treated. This was not an option at a site that is entirely focused on reducing waste in a safe and controlled manner.
The EDI system water treatment does not require any regeneration chemicals, instead relying on electricity to do the job. Because only a small amount of electricity is required for regeneration, the water treatment plant's efficiency is maximised at a low cost.
