Are there any health risks associated with ETPs?
ETP operators are routinely exposed to extremely hazardous chemicals, which can result in acute poisoning, chemical accidents (burns, eye injuries), respiratory damage, allergies, chronic illnesses, or dermatitis. It is critical to be aware of the dangers and take the necessary precautions, to reduce the operational risks of Effluent treatment plants or ETP.
The dangers of running and maintaining an ETP
· Slipping or falling into pits, ponds, tanks, or purifiers can result in injury or drowning
· Falling or slipping on slick ground as a result of a solvent or solution
· Choking danger, lack of oxygen, or poisoning
· Burns caused by hot water, a solvent, or a concentrated acid or base
· Electric shock caused by faulty electrical equipment
· Sharp edges cause cuts and punks
· Explosions and fires caused by flammable gases released during the process
· Violent chemical reactions caused by uncontrolled chemical mixing
· Poisoning or bacterial infection as a result of drinking untreated sewage
How can the operation and maintenance of ETP ensure security?
· Wear safety shoes with nonslip soles.
· Wear protective and chemical-resistant clothing to avoid coming into contact with liquids, vapours, or gases.
· Do not mix chemicals unless supervised by a chemist or a safety expert.
· Check the safety of electrical equipment before using it, or at the very least ensure that all wires are properly insulated.
· Wear safety goggles at all times to avoid being exposed to smoke, dust, or chemical splashes.
· When handling or transporting chemicals such as liquid or gaseous chlorine, concentrated acids or bases, or toxic gases, take all necessary precautions. If you are exposed to a toxic gas, wear a respiratory or gas mask.
· Drink or eat nothing in areas where biological or chemical contamination is likely.
· If latex hypersensitivity is detected, use non-latex gloves.
· All workers must have regular health checks to detect chronic effects, or early signs of allergies.

First aid for chemical exposure
· Ingestion: Eliminate people from the pollution source. Do not make yourself vomit. Every 2 minutes, give 2 cups of water. Consult a doctor and keep everyone warm and calm.
· Skin contact: Remove the person from the source of contamination and immediately move to the source of water. Remove any clothing, socks, or jewellery from non-affected areas. Consult a physician.
· In the event of eye contact: Immediately rinse eyes with lukewarm water for at least 15 minutes. Keep the eyelids away from the eyeball and instruct the victim, to rotate the eyeball.
· Inhalation: Remove a person from the pollution source. People should be moved to fresh air. If the victim is not breathing, start CPR.
Conclusion
When working with acids, always wear proper gloves, safety shoes, safety masks, goggles, aprons, seat belts, and helmets. Also, make sure your work area has a first-aid kit, a fire extinguisher, and a respirator with a pack bottle.
If a STP or ETP complies with all guidelines and follows all rules, the likelihood of disaster decreases. In the opposite case, the likelihood of disaster increases. As a result, plant managers should report any obstacles or problems encountered at an ETP or STP facility, in order to avoid accidents and improve workplace safety.
Employees must be involved in workplace safety measures by facility managers and employers. You can inform your employees about workplace hazards by sharing injury statistics with them.
