Overview
Deposits and corrosion are two main water-related issues that both boilers and cooling towers face. Dissolved minerals are left behind as steam is created by a boiler or water evaporates from a cooling tower, increasing the concentration of these minerals. Water supplied to make up for water lost to steam/evaporation introduces more minerals. Minerals eventually reach a concentration level (or cycle) that causes either efficiency loss owing to scaling or corrosion damage.
What is ultra-concentrated product?
To satisfy the definition, a balance between these two is achieved:
An ultra-concentrate is a product made up of the highest concentration of substances that may be used in a practical way. When correctly prepared, ultra-concentrated goods can function better as well as or better than ordinary products.
The properties that should be taken care of:
1: Conductivity
The ability of a solution to convey an electrical current is measured by its conductivity. Micro Siemens/cm (micromhos/cm) is the most common unit of measurement. Pure water has a resistance of 18,200,000 ohms/cm, making it a poor electrical conductor. The conductivity of water is determined by the quantity of ionised substances (or salts) dissolved in it. Conductivity testing is an effective indication of mineral content since these conductive inorganic impurities make up the vast bulk of dissolved minerals in water.
2: pH
One of the most critical parameters determining scale development or corrosion in a boiler or cooling system is pH, which is a measurement of acidity or basicity. At varying pH levels, the different types of contaminants that make up the mineral concentration behave differently. Corrosion is more likely in low pH fluids, whereas scale development is more likely in high pH waters.
3: Boiler Water
Depending on size, pressure, use, and feedwater, boiler water needs can range from ultra-pure to over 6500 micro Siemens. A conductivity instrument can easily assist you assess if the blowdown plan is appropriate once the maximum concentration cycles have been defined. To provide accurate temperature compensated measurements, samples should be chilled to at least 160°F/71°C.
4: Boiler Condensate
Boiler condensate samples are frequently examined to see whether there is any contamination or carryover of boiler water particles from outside the system. Condensate is a kind of water that is reasonably clean, with microSiemens ranging from 2 to 100. Due to the low readings, a multiple-range instrument is advised to improve the reading's resolution and accuracy. It's also crucial to keep an eye on the pH of the condensate, as condensate is extremely corrosive at low pH levels. To prevent corrosion in condensate lines, treatment chemicals are frequently used to raise the pH.
5: Cooling Water Tower
Since the removal of chromate and the reduction of acid, cooling tower water has become more difficult to manage. Maintaining an effective treatment programme requires constant monitoring of conductivity and pH. Despite the fact that many systems have these parameters under control, the risk of a system failure is always there. Even little disturbances can cause heat exchangers to rapidly scale.
6: Biological Development
Another critical aspect of efficient cooling water management is biological development. Corrosion, fouling, and sickness can all be caused by microbes. To keep bacteria under control, oxidising biocides (chlorine, chlorine dioxide, ozone, and bromine) have been used.
Why Use Ultra-Concentrated Boiler/Cooling Tower Products?
To be functioning, boilers and cooling towers require constant water treatment. Ultra-concentrated products, when applied properly, provide for a more efficient water treatment procedure, allowing:
-Savings on the whole
-Material handling is simplified
-A more secure environment
-More efficient use of space
That's why, to assist improve their water treatment systems, more and more plant managers are turning to ultra-concentrated goods and chemicals.
Premium anti-scalant, anti-fouling, and corrosion inhibition chemicals for industrial boiler, cooling, closed-loop, and steam-line applications are among ultra-concentrated, performance-enhancing goods. These items will keep your equipment performing at its best.
