What is Precipitation?
A precipitation process occurs when soluble ions from different solutions combine to generate an insoluble chemical that settles out of solution as a solid. A precipitate is an insoluble compound.
What are metal precipitants?
Transforms dissolved pollutants into an insoluble solid, allowing them to be removed from the liquid phase by sedimentation and/or filtering.
Precipitants are specifically designed to precipitate metal ions from a wide range of industrial process wastewaters. Chelates and other complexing agents are typically present in such wastewaters, and they surround the metal ions, preventing the chemical process that transforms the ions into insoluble particles.
Metal precipitants are typically achieved by:
>pH Modification
>Coagulation of Chemicals
>Flocculation
>Separation
Metals Precipitate at Various pH Levels dependupon:
>Other Metals Present in Wastewater Chemistry
>Presence of chelates
>Heavy-metal precipitant with high efficiency for wastewater and effluent streams
>Versatile, with applications in a wide range of industries.
>Can be used in conjunction with standard chemical treatments to lower heavy-metal levels.
>Removes coexisting heavy metals
>Profile that is environmentally friendly
>Chelating agent with excellent flocculating properties
>Ready-to-use without the need for previous dissolving or costly make-up equipment
>Reduces disposal costs by forming dense, compact sludge.
Heavy metals that are difficult to precipitate may be present in the following applications:
1. Finishing and metal plating
2. Automotive
3. Electronics
4. Mining sludge
5. Water from a flue gas scrubber
6. Metal fabrication and processing
7. Remediation of groundwater
8. Treatment of oil and gas wastewater
9. Industry of chemistry
10. Manufacturing of iron and steel
11. production of electricity
12. Incineration of waste
13. Leachate from landfills
14. Chemicals and Blends for Metal Precipitation
a): Thiocarbonate based precipitants
PTR-1: is an organic molecule that is a basic thiocarbonate that generates organometallic precipitates.
PTB-6: For mixed metals applications, combine with inorganic chemicals and various coagulants.
PTB-25: A non-toxic heavy metal precipitant designed to replace standard DTC chemistry. Testing has shown that its capacity to bind and precipitate heavy metals is more effective than DTC at comparable concentrations, and it is considerably safer for aquatic creatures than carbamate chemistry. The PTB-25 mix, along with PTB-6, is often used to extract precious metals and industrial metals from water. Gold (Au), silver (Ag), palladium (Pd), platinum (Pt), copper (Cu), zinc (Zn), cadmium (Cd), lead (pb) and mercury (Hg).
PTB-50: is a unique thiocarbonate formulation that was developed as a non-toxic precipitant of heavy metals from industrial process wastewaters, including metals from chelated/complexed settings. It is an effective substitute for routinely used hazardous DTC/carbamate-type compounds. When compared to other products, testing demonstrate that PTB-50 has twice the precipitating action at a comparable dose.
b): Precipitants based on sulphide
PSB-9: A liquid formulation (thiocarbonate / Sulphide blend) developed to reduce hexavalent chromium and remove heavy metals from wastewater in a single step, and is an important component of a heavy metal removal program. It takes the place of sodium metabisulfite, hydrosulphite, and bisulphite. Produces substantially less sludge, needs little to no coagulation (it is a self-coagulating product), and is simple to use (pourable and pumpable).
c): Precipitants based on carbamate
PDB-2: is an organic liquid precipitant (sodium dimethyldithio carbamate) designed for the precipitation of heavy metals in process and other wastes, notably chelated and complexed ions. The precipitating process produces insoluble organometallic compounds while producing little sludge. There are no disulphides in this product.
PDB-23: Combine with an inorganic coagulant.
PDB-28: Combine with an inorganic coagulant.
