· The volume of sludge is a considerable challenge, yet recovery is achievable. Lime is a calcium-rich mineral that is available as quicklime or hydrated. It is sold dry and must be combined with water, before usage to produce a slurry.
· Sodium hypochlorite (caustic soda), often known as sodium hydroxide (NaOH), is a low-cost, controlled, and readily accessible chemical. It is often utilized for modest or occasional applications, as well as to limit sludge accumulation.
· Caustic soda is available in two quantities in liquid form: 50% NaOH, which begins to crystallize at 54 degrees Fahrenheit, and 100% NaOH, which begins to crystallize at 100 degrees Fahrenheit (12 °C). As a result, it must be kept or diluted appropriately before use.
· 25% NaOH is also accessible, and it begins to crystallize well below freezing temperature. Caustic soda is also available in anhydrous or dry form at a 100 percent concentration. During the diluting process, a lot of heat is produced. As a result, to avoid boiling or splattering, the rate of dilution and cooling process must be carefully managed.
