How can we recycle waste plastic bags?
Recycling is the process of converting a used or discarded material or product into a new product, material, or object. It aims to reduce the consumption of new raw materials, reduce pollution, and save energy by limiting the waste of potentially usable items.
Factors on which plastic recycling depends
The ability of plastic to be recycled is determined by a number of factors, including the location of recycling and the material used to manufacture the plastic.
1. Check with your neighbourhood: Before recycling plastic bags at home, make sure the rules in your neighbourhood allow them. It will be difficult to progress to the next steps if your town does not allow for such recycling, or does not accept plastic bags with other recyclables.
2. Collect as many as you can: You won't be able to recycle just one plastic bag; you'll need several more. Maintain a bag collecting bucket in your home, such as a large garbage bag, to collect all bags. In this manner, you can simply compact them and fit 50 to 100 plastic bags into one waste bag.
3. Remove anything inside the bags, including receipts, crumbs, and stickers, after collecting as many bags as possible, and confirming you have the green light to recycle. The presence of these creatures contaminates the bag load. Then proceed to clean the bags.
4. Confirm if the bags are recyclable: The recyclable sign is frequently printed on the front or bottom of a plastic bag. Any number printed on the bag indicates that it is made of recyclable material.
5. Take them to a recycling center or agency: Most grocery stores have a collecting bin for such plastics. You must deliver the gathered, clean, and dry recyclable plastic bags to the collection bins, which are normally located near the front entrance of such establishments, and they will handle the rest.
6.Start reusing the plastic bags
· Lining your waste cans with the plastic bags
You can use plastic bags as waste bin liners at home. This way, you can keep collecting waste and using the plastic bag for as long as it will hold.
· Waste collection
You can reuse plastic bags by collecting waste in little containers around the house, such as in the bathroom or bedroom. You can also use plastic bags to collect waste in your car. Once filled, just remove the plastic bags and replace them with new ones.
· Reusing plastic bags for shopping
Plastic bags can be reused to bag groceries or other products. Before doing so, ensure the bags are free of holes and in good enough condition to hold stuff.
· Storing other plastic bags
If you intend to maintain a large number of plastic bags in your home for these and other purposes, place them in a large plastic bag. This prevents mess in the home and ensures they do not endanger children or pets.
· Covering up messes in the home
You may also reuse plastic bags to cover up messes in your home. All you have to do is tear up the bags and tape them on tables, or countertops to protect them.
Every day, you use plastic bags to carry groceries home or to store items you bought at the store. Plastic bags are not biodegradable, thus they will take hundreds of years to degrade.
Recycling old plastic bags ensures that they are reused and do not contaminate the environment. Plastic bags can be recycled by bringing them to a local recycling center. You can reuse them at home or make crafts out of them, preventing them from ending up in a landfill.
