WHAT IS HARDNESS?
When the water travels through rocks it comes in contact with minerals like calcium and magnesium. You must have heard about the rock called limestone, as water runs through such rocks it eventually picks up minerals and becomes hard. It can be said that it becomes very hard in some of the cases of contact. As we all know that the wholesome process is natural and there is no such thing that we can do to stop it. Hardness is measured via grains per gallon of water. Water which contains 10 grains per gallon is considered to be hard.
What is Downward Technology in industrial water softener?
Softening of water gets rid of accumulated excess minerals and metals like calcium, magnesium and iron from your water supply or feed water. These minerals create a condition called hard water. Hard water increases your expense and is considered as liability. The scales and spots on your appliances, pipes and boilers are actually because of hard water. This can lead to clogging, drop in pressure and corrosion which reduces the efficiency and shortens their life span. It may even cause damage to your appliances. There are two types of technologies involved in softening of water. These are:
· Upward Technology
· Downward Technology
These softeners direct water from their entrance through an upper basket into the tank. This water flows down and around the system via distributor tube and through the resin bed as well. As the water is directed through the resin bed, it flows into the lower basket found on the bottom side of riser tube. From there, it can exit the tube by climbing via tube.
Fluffing and backwashing of resin are done automatically. It is necessary because of the fact that the incoming water always presses down on the resin. This pressure compacts it in down flow technology. It also takes channels and tunnels in resin material which is compacted and thereby prevents incoming water to reach the resin. This hindrance results in reduced efficacy of the softener. It is because of this a water softener should do regeneration process.
There are various variants available in this technology. These variants are of specific use based on their place of usage. Some of the variants are cheap in price such that their use is done for rental properties (down flow technology). Other variant of the technology is set to run its regeneration on specific time, regardless of the volume of water inside of it. This enables the softener to wash water before the regeneration occurs and hence decreases the human effort. Some of the key features have been listed below:
>A down flow water softener pulls the brine into the salt tank through the tube as discussed earlier and then flows to the top.
>A down flow system is claimed to be less efficient than other available technology.
>A down flow system has a backwash control valve which does the regeneration process efficiently. This is enabled since the water flow is always downwards.
