Sources of effluent from fertilizer industries
Wastewater containing nitrogen compounds is due to the nitrogenous fertilizer sector by ammonia plants, urea plants, ammonium nitrate and calcium ammonium nitrate plants, ammonium sulphate plants, and ammonium chloride plants.
In case of phosphate fertilizer business, wastewater is produced by phosphoric acid plant, single superphosphate plant, triple superphosphate plant, nitrophosphate plant, ammonium phosphate plant, and nitric acid plant.
In what quantity does fertilizer industry produce wastewater?
The amount of effluent emitted from fertilizer factories varies greatly based on the raw material utilized, the end product obtained, and the fertilizer production process used.
A 1000 tonnes per day urea plant with a recirculating cooling water system and all the auxiliary facilities, required for production generally discharges 8000 to 12000 m3/day wastewater, whereas a phosphatic fertilizer plant with a recirculating cooling water system and auxiliary facilities, and a daily fertilizer production of approximately 100 tonnes of phosphorus pentoxide (P2O5) discharges, 3000 to 6000 m3/day sewage.

Note:
1. Chromium salt shall not be used in cooling tower as algaecide.
2. The effluent shall be tested for vanadium and arsenic once a year, and the results shall be submitted to the relevant State Pollution Control Board, or Pollution Control Committee.
In Schedule VI, Waste Water Generation Standards Part B, for serial number 11, Fertilizer and entries relating to it, the following serial number and entries shall be substituted:
