Concrete is a significant component of economic development, particularly in the construction of infrastructure and huge public projects, for the development of natural or human resources such as dams, bridges, schools, airports, etc.
What are the CPCB Guidelines for cement industry?
Water use in the Cement Industry
In terms of total water use, the cement sector is considerable in most industrial economies. Because, the cement industry is spread in so many different geographical regions, the water use characteristics vary greatly from one country to the next.
Water usage in cement industries has 3 basic uses:
· Cooling Water
· Process Water
· Service and Sanitary Water
Effluent Characteristics of Cement Industry
The effluent characteristics indicate that the unit can dispose of its water in the municipal sewer. However, in the absence of such a facility, wastewater must be physico-chemically treated, to eliminate high TSS and O/G concentrations before final disposal.

NOTES:
1. The height of each stack, including Clinker Grinding Plant, Coal Mill, Raw Mill, Grinding, Packaging Section, and so on, shall be at least 30 metres or, as per the formula H=14 (Q)o, whichever is greater, where "H" is the height of the stack in metres, and "Q" is the maximum quantity of SO2 expected to be emitted in kg/hr, through the stack at 100% rated capacity of the plant, and calculated in accordance with gaseous emission norms.
2. The above standards apply even whether pet-coke is blended with coal, or used alone for clinker production in a kiln, provided that pet-coke has been designated as a "approved fuel" by the relevant State Pollution Control Board!
3. All monitored SO2 and NO2 levels must be adjusted to 10% oxygen on a dry basis. The SO2 and NO2 standards must apply to stacks attached to kilns.
4. Scrubbers intended for scrubbing emissions are not to be used as quenchers. Plants with a separate stack for gaseous emission from the cleaning unit, the height of which must be at least equivalent to the height of the main stack.
