The following are the costs of RO systems and the annual maintenance fees taken by some manufacturers based on the different regions:

Per litre of treated water: Cost analysis

The price per litre of RO-treated water is calculated as follows:

Note: Water extraction costs are not included in this computation because normal drinking water is mostly used as the feed water for the RO system.

1: For a 2000 LPH RO system supply;

i) Unit cost: Rs. 7, 05,000/-

ii) Electricity Needed - 6.25 KW = 6.25x17 = 106.25 KW (Assuming 17 hours of work per day). The equipment's power consumption is obtained from the manufacturer's specifications.

iii) 365 days of electricity charges @ Rs.8.36/- per KW = 106.25x365x8.36 = Rs.3, 24,212/-

iv) Annual Labor AMC cost – 10,000/-

v) Consumables (assuming regular servicing requirements) – Rs. 2, 15,890/-

Assuming a 5-year life for the RO system, the annual cost of one unit is Rs.1, 41,000.00.

For a year, the total cost is Rs. 1,41,000.00 + Rs. 3,24,212.00 + Rs. 10,000.00 + Rs. 2,15,890.00 = Rs. 6,91,102.00.

Cost of RO Treated water/lt = Rs. 6, 91,102.00/ (2000x17x365) =0.056/ lt.

2: For RO systems with 1000 LPH supply;

i) The unit's price is Rs. 5, 80,000/-.

ii) Electricity Requirement - 4.25 KW = 4.25x17 = 72.25 KW (based on 17 hours of work per day). The manufacturer's recommended power consumption for the equipment is used.

iii) For 365 days, electricity costs Rs. 8.36/KW = 72.25x365x8.36 = Rs. 2, 20,463/-

iv) Annual Labor AMC – 10,000/-

v) Consumables (assuming regular service requirements) – Rs.1, 272, 10/-

Assuming a 5-year life expectancy for the RO system, the annual cost of one unit is Rs.1, 16,000.00.

For a year, the total cost is Rs. 1,16,000.00 + Rs. 2,20,463.00 + Rs. 10,000.00 + Rs.127210.00 = Rs. 4,73,673.00.

3: For 500 LPH RO system;

ii) Electricity Needed - 3.25KW = 3.25x16 = 52KW (Assuming 16 hours of work per day).

The equipment's power consumption is obtained from the manufacturer's specifications.

iii) 365 days of electricity charges @ Rs.8.36/- per KW = 52x365x8.36 = Rs.1, 58,673/-

iv) Annual Labor AMC Cost - 9,110/-

v) Consumables (assuming regular service) – Rs.60, 340/-

Assuming a 5-year life for the RO system, the annual cost of one unit is Rs.47, 000.00.
