The normal pH range is 0-14, but actual pH values ??can exceed these theoretical limits. pH adjustment changes the pH or potential hydrogen by adding pH reagents such as: using acid to lower the pH, or using caustic or other alkaline substances to raise the pH.

Alkalinity and pH can be dramatically increased and controlled using soda ash (sodium carbonate), and baking soda has little effect on the overall pH. If you are trying to raise the pH, use soda ash to guide the water treatment process.

Sulphuric acid and sodium hydroxide (caustic) are most commonly used. Be careful with alkalinity control applications because of the exothermic reaction that generates heat. The more powerful the application, the more heat it will generate. For example; tap water that regulates pH produces almost no heat and is not a problem. Neutralizing solutions with high acid or base content can generate significant heat and should be considered in the design and materials.
